History Hudson Valley (HHV) is a not-for-profit education organization that owns, restores and preserves historic landmarks of national significance within the Hudson River Valley, including Washington Irving’s Sunnyside and the Rockefeller estate at Kykuit. To better carry out its mission, HHV sought to construct a new building to house its library, archives and offices on a nine-acre rural site in Pocantico Hills, New York near several of its historic properties.

The implementation of HHV’s new regional history center would require programming and planning for an organization whose focus was restoration and preservation rather than new construction. DTS assisted with project planning and management from initial site concepts through building occupancy. They coordinated the local land use approval process in stages to help achieve project funding milestones. DTS also developed stormwater management and landscape plans that retained the rural character of the site while accommodating regulatory and program requirements.

HHV’s new history center and headquarters now house its program staff offices and distinguished research library in a bucolic setting, and also provide a fitting venue for lectures, workshops and special events.
